Care and Maitenance

At Studio by Ferni, each piece we stock is made to be loved, displayed, and enjoyed for years to come. Because of the hand-crafted and often delicate nature of our products, from backstrap-woven tapestries to ceramics, we’ve put together simple care guidance to help preserve their beauty and character.

General Principles

No matter the object, proper care begins with prevention:

Temperature and Placement

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. UV light can fade dyes, weaken fibres, and alter finishes over time.

Keep pieces in spaces with stable temperature and humidity. Rapid shifts can stress materials.

Tapestry

Our tapestries are crafted using traditional backstrap weaving and natural fibres. They're uniquely beautiful, yet sensitive to environmental conditions.

Display

Hang away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and damp areas.

Ensure hanging hardware supports the weight evenly to avoid distortion over time.

Dust & Cleaning

Gently dust every few months using a soft brush or low-suction vacuum with a protective mesh over the nozzle to draw away dust without damaging fibres.

Spot cleaning should be done sparingly; consult a professional conservator if unsure.

Storage

If you need to store a tapestry, roll it loosely (don’t fold) with acid-free tissue between layers.

Store in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place

Care for Ceramics & Other Objects

Our collection includes objects with a range of materials and finishes. While specifics may vary, these universal tips will help prolong their life:

Surface Cleaning

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove everyday dust.

For glazed ceramics and finished surfaces, warm water with a gentle soap is usually sufficient. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners.
